Meet Nakita
Hi! I’m Nakita, creator, connector, and advocate for purposeful living. My story is rooted in a deep passion for people, movement, and meaningful connection. Whether in a professional space or on the mat, I’ve always been drawn to helping others align mind, body, and purpose. That passion began early in my life in Clinton, a small town in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and grew as I pursued my education and career. I earned a degree in Communications from Morgan State University, followed by a Master’s in Public Administration from American University, and a certificate in Organizational Development from Georgetown University.
Over the years, I’ve built a career in Human Resources within the federal government, focused on people, growth, and building systems that support both. Now, I bring that same commitment to my wellness work, creating spaces that inspire, heal, and empower.
Our founding story
It started with a lifelong love for movement and a commitment to community.
A Lifelong Love for Movement
My passion for movement began in my late teens when I discovered yoga. Since then, movement has always been a form of therapy for me, whether through walking, running, or unrolling my mat. Years later, I became a part-time coach at a boutique fitness studio. I took that step not just for me, but for representation. As a client, I was often the only Black woman in the room. At the time, there were no Black coaches on staff, and I felt called to change that. I applied, got the job, and showed up for myself and for the people who needed to see themselves reflected in that space. Ironically, once I started coaching, I worked out less. I craved movement for myself again and that’s when I found Pilates.
The Shift Pilates Created
When I started taking Pilates classes at a local studio, something shifted. The way I was able to connect with my body, breathe deeper, and release stress I didn’t even know I was holding it was transformational. I decided to get comprehensively certified. Over 500 hours of study, movement, and deep internal work later, I earned my certification and became even more passionate about sharing this gift with others.
The Birth of Flex & Flow Collective
Shortly after becoming certified, I launched Flex & Flow Collective, a wellness movement grounded in community, healing, and joy. My goal? To help people feel as amazing as I do when I’m moving through a Pilates class. Whether it’s on the mat, Reformer, Cadillac, Ladder Barrel, or any of the incredible apparatus Joseph Pilates created, I want others to feel strong, connected, and in flow with their body, their breath, and their life. Flex & Flow Collective offers curated pop-up classes, wellness events, and shared experiences that make space for growth, release, and joy especially for people who have felt left out of traditional wellness spaces.
Beyond the Mat
Outside of the studio, I’m a wife, mom, daughter, niece, and aunty. My family is my foundation, and everything I do is rooted in love, legacy, and purpose. I want to be a living example to them that it’s never too late to follow your calling, that movement is healing, and that wellness is for all of us. I believe in showing up authentically, holding space with care, and creating experiences that leave people feeling better than when they arrived more grounded, more empowered, and more at peace.
